Are there any new cases of flurona?
Many local and international media outlets used the term "flurona" after two young pregnant women in Israel tested positive for both the coronavirus and influenza. The co-infection was quickly dubbed "double trouble" by The Sun, a British newspaper.

While the term is still relatively new and gaining traction, flu and coronavirus co-infections are not. Flurona, on the other hand, is not a disease in and of itself; it refers to when a person has been infected with both viruses. Flurona cases have been found in nations such as the United States, Israel, Brazil, the Philippines, and Hungary, some of which were discovered before the term was coined.

Flurona has been reported in a number of places.
In the United States, there have been additional recent incidents. After acquiring the coronavirus and the flu at the same time, a Houston kid spent Christmas Day alone in his room. Alec Zierlein, who had been vaccinated against the coronavirus but not the flu, was also tested for strep throat, but the findings revealed that he only had the first two illnesses, which he described as "mild colds." Zierlein told ABC News after his diagnosis that he had no idea the coronavirus and the flu could "build up on each other" and that he would receive a flu vaccination as a precaution in the future.

Is flurona more common this year than in previous years?
According to Arnon Vizhnitser, director of gynaecology at Israel's Beilinson Hospital, where doctors recently diagnosed the two pregnant women with both infections, cases of the coronavirus are rising alongside cases of influenza A during the omicron outbreak.

Is it more harmful to have the flu and covid at the same time?
While many countries keep track of coronavirus and flu infections, it appears that there is little information on how many people are infected at the same time. As more examples of co-infections emerge, health experts and clinicians emphasise that coronavirus and flu vaccines are still the best method to prevent serious infections.

What are the flurona symptoms?
Coronavirus and influenza are respiratory illnesses that can cause fever, coughing, tiredness, runny nose, sore throat, diarrhoea, and muscle and body aches, among other symptoms. Both infections can be fatal, albeit the severity of each diagnosis is mostly determined on the immune system of the individual. Each virus is more dangerous to health workers, the elderly, and people with underlying medical issues.
